Armored suits

Mark 1#

The original armor, Tony Stark created the Iron Man Mark I while in captivity in Afghanistan. As such, it is crudely designed and bulky. It does have the necessary capacity, however, to help him escape his captors. It is bullet-proof, has two built-in flamethrowers, a rocket launcher, as well as rocket boosters for jumps. It is notable that this version of the armor, unlike the later Mark 2 and Mark 3 armors, does not have an on-board AI system or internal diagnostic display.

The helmet served only as a simple shield, and was not fully sealed. Stark refashioned the special iron-copper-magnesium alloy from disassembled Stark mortar cannons into the Mark I armor, rendering it especially bulletproof. To power the thruster boots, Stark reportedly siphoned the propellant fuel from four Stark S-class ballistic missiles into two Stark M-class mortars, creating two homemade fuel tanks, welded shut except for valves connecting fuel hoses that led down to the Mark I's legs.

Mark 2#

The Mark II armor was designed and created by Tony Stark after his return from Afghanistan. It features much of the articulation and sleek-design which would appear in the final, Mark 3 armor. While testing the flight mechanism, he noted that 'icing' would become a major problem with the Mark II when upper altitudes were reached. The main focus of the Mark II was to update the armor with advanced construction and material with a focus to greatly enhancing it's flight capabilities. Stripping down the Mark I suit to it's basics, with the aid of modern resources and computer aided design, Stark was able to make the armor both much more streamlined while including massively more complex systems. Compared to to the electronically "dumb" Mark I, the Mark II featured a highly advanced compact computer system with extensive sensor systems linked to holographic heads-up display in the helmet, Stark's personal A.I. system J.A.R.V.I.S being able to interface with it and provide verbal warnings and system status updates. The outer surface of the armor was high gloss silver. The majority of the panels on the suit were articulated to serve as control surfaces in flight, but main flight stabilization cames from repulsors installed on the palms each hand.

The HUD multi-processor computer system was projected against the lenses that covered the eyeholes. Stark confirmed with Agent Coulson that the HUD included the J.A.R.V.I.S. monitoring capabilities and observational protocol, a Global Positioning System, target scanning, and displays for navigation, power level, and vital signs. One of the main goals of the Mark II armor was to provide flight stabilization to control the Thruster Boots. The strength of the Replsor Rays was apparently not initially weapons-grade in the Mark II. The Mark II was a protoype of the Iron Man Armors and had mainly systems for flight, thus its streamlined shape. It also has noteably no weapons on board like later models.

Mark 3#

The Mark III armor was designed and created by Tony Stark after he discovered both the Mark II's icing flaw as well as a short in it's power source. It features even more articulation and sleekness of design than the Mark 2 armor, as well as a gold-titanium alloy shell and an upgraded power generation unit.

During Stark's lifetime, he gains more money and technology becomes better too, therefore giving him the chance to upgrade the Iron Man armour. The Mark III armour has many different upgrades, which cost money to research and make but create a better suit for Stark to use. Stark Industries' signature targeting systems were added to the Mark III. Each projectile weapon, carrying its own microcomputer, could communicate wirelessly with the targeting system even after launch, tracking the most mobile targets and even changing targets en route. The Mark III System offers remarkable durability without compromising mobility. This armor was constructed as a flexible foundation from which further improvements can be made. Stark confirmed that this lightweight yet extraordinarily strong alloy shell consists of 95.5% titanium and 4.5% gold and is coated on the interior with a dense, high-tensile synthetic fiber.

Mark 4#

The Mark IV armor was created by Tony Stark after his Mark III was damaged in his battle with the Iron Monger.

Similar to the Mark III's, this chin-mounted device seemed to allow Mr. Stark to use local cell sites for wireless communications. It also included a loudspeaker as well as several individually-calibrated directional microphones, which Stark used to pick up exterior sounds.
Controlled Unibeam

Stark previously weaponized his RT chest piece in the Mark III by externalizing its light energy into a powerful beam. The thermoplastic lens used to focus the beam's energy was modified for the Mark IV with a variable prismatic shutter that allows Stark to control the beam's intensity.

Mark 5#

The Mark V armor was designed to fit into a suitcase making it easy to transport. The Mark I, V and VII are the only known "Iron Man" armors that don't require a heavy robotic gantry system for getting in and out of the suit. The suitcase containing the fully armored suit weighs approximately 30 lbs. It has a special system of cerebral-like overlapping strips of titanium exterior. It is equipped with JBF-030581 Mark V palm repulsors. Due to the high potential for others to access the mobile Mark V, Stark informed Agent Coulson that he increased the biometric security system. Before activating, the suit scans the person's face, retinas, fingerprints, voice, and brainwaves. If any of these fail, the suit locks up, effectively capturing the potential thieves.

Mark 6#

The Mark VI armor was created by Tony Stark to replace the Mark IV armor when it was discovered that the Arc Reactor could be powered by vibranium, which did not wear out or poison the user. It is similar to the Mark IV in appearance except for the triangular chest piece. Stark developed the new core via building a particle accelerator, then superheating the primary triangular core to a white arc, creating a source acceptable for the Arc reactor.

The primary upgrade to the Mark VI is the inclusion of a prototype 200kW [estimated] laser system. The laser takes advantage of the increased power supply provided by the new RT chest piece and is configured for a one-time simultaneous shell discharge from each of the two gauntlets. The weapons may be chemical, as suggested by the nature of the ejected shells from the gauntlet. Another theory is that a micro-particle generator in the suit powered by the upgraded element could serve as a chem-particle core to generate energy enough to create an extreme exothermic reaction.

Stark upgraded the wrist-mounted mini-missiles to newer casings that allow the missiles to penetrate through armored surfaces before detonating. While modifying the suit's gauntlets for the new casings, he also increased the capacity to a circle of 8 missiles. They were shown to have great effect, as only three small missiles could critically destroy a Hammer Drone. The Mark VI is equipped with twin rectangular six barreled shoulder-mounted missile launchers. The missiles seem to be computer-guided and micro-jet powered.

Mark 7#

The Mark VII armor is an upgraded version of Tony Stark's Iron Man armor that he utilizes at some point during his time with The Avengers. It uses a laser-scannable pattern reading system, and functions as a non-gantry armor capable of near instant application. It has over four additional thruster systems, and is equipped with over 92 high-explosive micromissiles, twin tri-barreled laser modules, and a single high-explosive anti-armor missile, as well as upgraded plasma chargers, allowing for higher repulsor rates.

This suit uses advanced technologies based on the Mark V Suitcase armor, which makes it far easier to put on. When not in use, the Mark VII can be folded into a large pod. When activated by J.A.R.V.I.S., it can take flight with its repulsor units and fold-out wings. After making its way to Tony, it extends robotic arms equipped with laser scanners, which synchronize with scannable wrist cuffs. The armor will automatically wrap itself around him, without any need for a gantry. This capability was used in The Avengers, when the Mark VII saved Tony after Loki threw him from the top of Stark Tower. The chestpeice is circular, like Marks I-V, and the Mark VII was equipped with two additional thrusters on the large "backpack" module, as well on the calves, legs, feet, and chest.

The Mark VII is equipped with twin tri-barreled laser weapons on the wrist gauntlets capable of considerable damage, as seen when a few seconds of firing destroyed the armor of a Leviathan, exposing its skin. Four arc shaped shoulder-mounted missile launchers, two on each shoulder, carried over 23 air-to-air high explosive missiles, each seemingly superheated to the tip. The left wrist gauntlet housed an anti-armor rocket.

Mark 8#

The suit was a basic Iron Man suit, like its predecessors. An improved version of the Mark VII, it is equipped with a vast variety of weapons, and is more versatile and maneuverable than its predecessor.

While retaining the famous red and gold color scheme, it has a slightly different appearance from the Mark VII; having a less bulkier body armor, while having a unique and smooth design on its face mask, a feature that cannot be found in its previous Mark armors.

Mark 9#

The suit was a basic Iron Man suit, like its predecessors. An improved version of the Mark VIII. There is not much information about this particular suit ( Mark 9#), only from appearance can we tell that it has a lighter body armor surrounded with spike like body parts.

Mark 10#

Rigid interior/3-D knitted metallic exterior provided protection from physical attacks as well as acid, heat, cold, most forms of energy, radiation, and electricity. A 3-D knitting pattern on a submolecular construction level gives the armor itself more strength, while allowing for the most comfortable suit interior. The armor magnifies strength to superhuman levels, enabling him to lift 60 tons. The Mark X armor can reach speeds above Mach 3. The suit can be completely sealed for operations in vacuum or underwater, providing its own life support, and is shielded against radiation.

Mark 11#

The suit was a basic Iron Man suit, like its predecessors. An improved version of the Mark X.There is not much information about this particular suit ( Mark 11#), only from appearance can we tell that it is a silver and beige suit or armor similar to the mark II.

Mark 12#

This armor is the twelfth Iron Man suit created by Tony Stark, and one of the many armors he developed after the battle for New York against Loki and the Chitauri left him with the sensation the world couldn't be safe and that he needed to build more suits until the next time Earth was in danger came. Also similar to the mark II, this suit is lighter and has a smoother surface.

Mark 13#

The suit was a basic Iron Man suit, like its predecessors. There is not much information about this particular suit ( Mark 13#), only from appearance can we tell that it is similar to the mark III.

Mark 14#

The suit was a basic Iron Man suit, like its predecessors. There is not much information about this particular suit ( Mark 14#), only from appearance can we tell that it is similar to the mark III.

Mark 15#

The Mark 15 (XV), which is also known as "Sneaky", is a Stealth Suit. The suit earned it's name "Sneaky", because it was built with a Cloaking System within it's armor, that enables it to use stealth. It is known for being able to camouflage itself within it's surroundings by lightening or darkening it's chrome colored armor.
The Mark 15's most notable features are it's slim and smooth body armor. It has a chrome colored plating, which allows it to turn lighter or darker to suit it's environment.

The suit is lighter than the usual Iron Man suit, to allow it's stealth system to take effect and to easily cope with stealth missions. The suit retains it's signature Repulsors, as well as it's Chest Repulsor and it's Vibranium Powered Arc Reactor, like it's previous Mark suits.

Since the suit was built for stealth, it has limited weapons. But it is still combat ready and has a few weapons equipped on it. It also retains it's signature weapons, which are the Repulsors on it's feet and hands, as well as the one on it's chest which is called the Unibeam.

Mark 16#

The Mark 16 (XVI), which is also known as the "Nightclub", is a Black Stealth Suit. The suit earned it's name the "Nightclub", because just like "Sneaky", it has a Cloaking System embedded within it's armor, only it is more advanced and can fully blend in with it's environment, especially during the night.

Since the suit was built with an Advanced Cloaking System, it has very limited weapons, and does not carry as much as the Mark 15 does, to allow it's stealth system to take place and run smoothly. The only weapons it carries, are it's signature repulsors that it retains from it's previous Mark suits. The Mark 16 is only suitable for stealth missions and is not suitable for heavy combat.

Mark 17#

The Mark 17 (XVII) or otherwise known as the "Heartbreaker", is an Artillery Level RT Suit. The suit earned it's name the "Heartbreaker", because it has an oversized chest RT, which can fire powerful blasts. The "Heartbreaker" can fire narrow or wide beams and can also generate a repulsor shield for protection.

Mark 18#

The Mark 18 (XVIII), also known by it's name as "Casanova", is a Stealth Artillery Level RT Suit. The suit earned it's name "Casanova", because much like it's predecessor, the Mark 17, it has an oversized chest RT that can fire powerful blasts and can also generate a repulsor shield to protect itself, as well as a heavily advanced and improved "Cloaking System" that was based on the success of the Mark 16's cloaking system.

After the successful and improved tests on the Mark 16, the cloaking system was heavily modified to be compatible with combat, and thus the suit is able to carry weapons, as much as the usual Iron Man suit can do, and is suitable for heavy combat.

Mark 19#

The Mark 19 (XIX), also known by it's name as "Tiger", is a prototype "High-Velocity Suit". The suit earned it's name "Tiger" because of it's ability to reach high-velocity speeds, and has a color scheme which resembles that of a tiger, which it's name is derived from.

It was built with an emphasis to test initial high-velocity traveling. After the tests were completed and successful, a new and improved version was created with the full technology to go at very high-velocity speed travels, which was later known as the Mark 40.

Mark 20#

The Mark 20 (XX), also known by it's name as the "Python", is a Long-Distance Suit. The suit earned it's name "Python", because of it's ability to go long distances mimicing the ability of a python. It has more energy stored into the suit's system, that is directed into it's Flight System, to allow more energy to be supplied to it to endure more travel and drain the energy less faster than the usual Iron Man suit's power does.

While its weaponry is considerably weaker than other armors, the Mark 20 channels all the power that would be used for deploying and activating weapons into its transport system. Essentially a vehicle, this suit has enhanced speed in terms of flight and land movement, and can last much longer on the move than other armors.

Mark 21#

The Mark 21 (XXI), also known as "Midas", is a High-Altitude Suit. The suit earned it's name "Midas", because of its color gold all over the suit, which the ancient, mythical, greek king Midas comes to play. Midas' Touch comes to where anything King Midas touched turned to gold which works for the suit because it is all gold colored. It also has the ability to fly at high altitude levels, with it's specially built armor, that can withstand extreme pressure, and cold temperatures, that enables flight at even the topmost zone of the atmosphere possible.

The Mark 21, may have been a prototype of the Mark 39, suit as the functionalities that they bear, are quite similar, having the Mark 21 the ability to fly at high altitudes, while the Mark 39, has a more advanced system, that enable it to venture into outerspace, and succeed in surpassing the earth's atmoshpere.

Mark 22#

The Mark 22 (XXII), also known as "The Hot Rod" is a suit built for speed and agility, and featuring the latest truster design and armor plating with the same protection as War Machine but with 1/3 the weight.
It Includes an experimental chameleon (cloaking) mode.

Mark 23#

The Mark 23 (XXIII), also known by it's name as "Shades", is an Extreme Heat Suit. The suit earned it's name "Shades", for it's ability to withstand extreme temperatures in the heat, because of it's multiple-layered and anti-heat armor plating, which was built within the suit by Tony, to prevent the suit from melting and eventually burning Tony inside of it.

Replacing the areas usually used for advanced weaponry, Tony inserted special plating that dispersed and contracted when the outer layer of the armor came in contact with heat. The contraction of these inner plated created a cool layer behind the main armor that was used to negate extreme temperatures.

Mark 24#

The Mark 24 (XXIV), or otherwise known by it's name as the "Tank", is a Heavy Combat Suit. The suit earned it's name the "Tank", for being able to withstand heavy damage in combat, and just like the Mark 17, has an oversized chest repulsor RT, that fires powerful blasts on it's enemies and can also generate a powerful repulsor shield for protection.

This armor is very similar to the Mark 17, but had thicker and more advanced armor plating suited for intense combat situations.

Mark 25#

The Mark 25 (XXV), which is also known as the "Striker", is a Heavy Construction Suit. The suit earned it's name the "Striker", because of it's powerful jackhammer like hands that can pulverize concrete. It was built for helping in heavy construction and specialializes in it's heavy power that comes from it's jackhammer like arms. It can also withstand temperatures and electrical surges. It is a suit with augmented strength designed for manipulating extremely heavy objects.

Mark 26#

The Mark 26 (XXVI), also known by it's name as "Gamma", is a Heavy Construction Suit Upgrade. The suit earned it's name "Gamma", for being able to withstand extreme heat and temperatures as well as very powerful and devastating electrical surges. It's specially built armor is also known to make it withstand gamma radiation, and this is where it's name is derived from. It was built for heavier construction and was based out of the Mark 25's design. It can also be used in dangerous situations

This armor appears as a green and black version of the Striker Armor, has both the heavy heat resistance of the "Shades" armor and the jackhammer attachments of the "Striker" armor.

Mark 27#

The Mark 27 (XXVII), also known as "Disco", is a Chameleon Suit. The suit earned it's name "Disco", because of it's colorful blue and orange color scheme, that makes it resemble the colorful lights on a real disco ball, as well as the blending abilities of a real "Chameleon", and is where the suit's specialty is derived from.

The reason the suit is colored blue with orange platings, is because it has a special stealth system that enables it to blend in with the environment, like a real chameleon does, and boosting the ability to do so with it's unique color scheme.

Mark 28#

The Mark 28 (XXVIII), also known as "Jack", is a Radiation-Zone Suit. The suit earned it's name "Jack", because of it's ability to withstand extreme radiation, either nuclear or gamma, in radiation-zone areas, as well as it's resemblance to a "Car Jack", having a unique orange and black color scheme similar to that of a real car jack.

The Mark 28 seems to resemble a car jack, both in color scheme and name. It is orange with black stripes, a common warning for radiation. It's faceplate has a symbol on it resembling a hasmat symbol.

The Mark 28 was built to withstand large amounts of radiation, and also seems to be able to resist the Extremis enhancile's powers. This was confirmed, as it was seen detonating after Tony gave the Clean Slate order. It seems to posses the basic weaponry for an Iron Man suit, but it is speculated to use gamma-based repuslors. This is not confirmed. It, along with most of the other suits seen at the end of Iron Man 3, is a prototype, so may have traits that are slightly different from the 'standard' armor.

Mark 29#

The Mark 29 (XXIX), also known as "Fiddler", is a Nimble-Construction Suit. The suit earned it's name "Fiddler", because of it's lesser purpose in it's construction specialty, which is derived from the term "Fiddle", by only having one jackhammer-like arm on it's left side, making it more versatile and maneuverable than it's Construction Suit predecessors.

Mark 30 #

The Mark 30 (XXX), also known as "Blue Steel", is a Silver Centurion Suit Upgrade. Strangely, the original silver centurion suit is created after this upgrade for the suit.

Mark 31#

The Mark 31 (XXXI), also known as the "Piston", is a High-Velocity Centurion Suit. This suit was actually the first suit to attack the extremis soldiers and the first suit to get blown up by crashing into the ground.

Mark 32#

The Mark 32 (XXXII), also known as "Romeo", is an Enhanced RT Suit. The suit earned it's name "Romeo", because it has an Enhanced Chest Repulsor RT that was built within the suit, that makes it look like a big heart, which resembles that of "Romeo's", and is where it's name is derived from, as well as where it's specialty and most notables features lie.

Mark 33#

The Mark 33 (XXXIII), also known as the "Silver Centurion", is an Enhanced Energy Suit. The Mark 33 was the final attempt to see if Tony's energy enhancement technology could be practically applied to an Iron Man suit. The suit used a directed energy reactor, focusing it's power and channeling it through to the suit's appendages and weapon systems, giving it enhanced speed, strength, and firepower. Because of the extra energy output, this armor also has a slight energy shield that passively improves it's durability.

It's Vibranium Powered Arc Reactor was extensively modified to accept the strain and tension of the channeling of technology and as such is shaped much like the Mark VI's arc reactor, with a triangular shaped plating.

This suit features all around above average power in its repulsors, RT beam, and thrusters. It also features a extendable Vibranium dagger that can be quickly activated from one of the armors gauntlets.

Mark 34#

The Mark 34 (XXXIV), also known as "Southpaw", is a Disaster Rescue Suit Prototype. The suit earned it's name "Southpaw", because of its left-handed claw, which is derived from the term "Southpaw", meaning left handed, literally, as well as it's similar appearance to a pirate, because of it's left-handed claw that somewhat resembles the hook of a pirate.

It was built as a prototype of the Mark 35, and was the first Disaster Rescue Suit built by Tony, to handle disaster involved situations. It was later succeeded by the Mark 35, which was a complete version of the suit, having a single claw on each of the suit's arms, instead of one.

Mark 35#

The Mark 35 (XXXV), also known as the "Red Snapper", is a Disaster Rescue Suit. The Mark 35 was designed in order to help pick up or retrieve people or objects from danger sites. It was equipped with enhanced bio hazard resistant armor to help in radioactive or chemically tainted areas and therefore has exceptional resilience and durability.

It also has long, spindly arms, equipped with pincer-like claws at the end. These arms could extend and retract at will, to lug heavy objects or rubble out of the way in rescue missions. The claws were fitted with hydraulic pistons, that could crush obstacles.

This armor, due to its extra features, is hindered in versatility, and is rather slow. Its flight ability also has certain limits due to the armor's excessive bulk. This armor was made not for combat, but rather for rescue missions, but it had an arsenal of conventional weaponry available on most of Stark's armors. Its repulsor rays could be focused into slow moving balls of energy, by the armors claws, that exploded on contact, and it had an average RT beam.

Mark 36#

The Mark 36 (XXXVI), also known as the "Peacemaker", is a Riot Control Suit. The suit earned it's name the "Peacemaker", for being purposely built by Tony to control riots, and instill peace within a community, if there ever was a situation as such.

The Mark  36's design was based out of the Mark 35's design, bearing much resemblance to it, with the exception of the absence of claws from the suit, and instead are replaced with normal arms and hands, that were meant to stop riots and control them easily.

Mark 37#

The Mark 37 (XXXVII), also known by its name as the "Hammerhead", is a Deep Sea Suit. The suit earned its name the "Hammerhead", for being to able to travel undersea and fully submerge itself without its system short circuiting and eventually malfunctioning. It was built for traveling deep underwater and has a thick reinforced armor specially built for the crushing pressure of subaqueous journeys.

Mark 38#

The Mark 38 (XXXVIII), or otherwise known by it's name as the "Igor", is a Heavy Lifting Suit. The suit earned it's name the "Igor", beacuse it has a similar resemblance to an "Igor", having a slouched and bulky appearance, just like that of an "Igor". It specializes in lifting heavy objects such as debri, and is capable of tremendous strength and power.

Having an Enhanced Multiple-layered Titanium Plating, It's armor is the thickest of all armored Mark suits, making it the biggest suit of all, as well as the strongest in physical strength and durability. A spine on the back of 'Igor' allows the suit to raise heavy objects with its back. It is blue and silver, and the largest of the Cinematic Armors. This suit was not meant for combat but for heavy lifting.

Mark 39#

The Mark 39 (XXXIX), also known by it's name as the "Gemini", is a Sub-Orbital suit. The suit earned it's name the "Starboost", for having the ability to travel into suborbital ranges and for venturing into space temporarily, as it is derived from it's name. It was built with an armor that could stand the cold temperature and radiation in space and was built in with an oxygen tank to allow Tony to be able to breathe while he was in space.

Tony's motive for creating this suit can be seen at the end of The Avengers. As Tony goes through the portal with the atomic bomb that would otherwise destroy Manhattan, his suit powers off, and Stark falls through the portal and is saved by The Hulk.

The armor features a removable jetpack with secondary thrusters that greatly enhance the upwards thrust of the suit.

Mark 40#

The Mark 40 (XL), which is also known as the "Shotgun", is a Hyper Velocity Traveling Suit.

The suit earned it's name the "Shotgun", because it was built for hyper velocity traveling, and specializes in very high speeds. It is currently known as the fastest suit of all, with a speed of over the excess of Mach 5.

Mark 41#

The Mark 41 (XLI), also known by it's name as "Bones", is a Skeleton Suit. The suit earned it's name "Bones", because of it's external appearance which has a thin plating with the internal contents of the suit being exposed. The suit specializes in speed and maneuverability and is lighter than the usual Iron Man suit.
It also has the ability to separate its parts to attack simoultaneously. It can also be used to avoid attacks

Mark 42#

The Mark 42 (XLII), was the forty second suit. The suit is well known for it's special ability to fly in separate pieces and wrap itself around Tony's body, piece by piece through a "state-of-the-art" computer chip that was implanted in his left forearm, which enables him to mentally communicate with his armor.

The suit is made from an advanced metal alloy that can resist powerful attacks, including energy attacks, that can destroy normal materials. It is reinforced with silicon infused-steel, enhanced composite armor with ceramic plating, a fibreglass frame and an advanced titanium alloy with high durability, hardness, toughness, compressive strength and tensile strength. Since it is more advanced than armors before, it could probably take multiple hits from high powered energy attacks. This incredible durability might be based on earlier armors like the ability to resist extreme heat, like the extremis soldier Eric Savin's heat, like the Mark 23, gamma radiation, like the Mark 26, biohazards, radioactivity and chemicals, like the Mark 35 and has incredible damage resistant thanks to the advanced Titanium alloy like the Mark 24 and might have a slight force field that enhances its armor to increase its durability from the advanced technologies based on the Mark 33 but it is more advanced and more durable.

Since this is the latest suit, Tony had upgraded this suit to be capable of flight at hypersonic speed since it is more advanced than other armors. Due to the vibranium arc reactor's higher power output, the repulsors are significantly stronger and function as able flight stabilizers. It's speed could also be based on the Mark 40 "Shotgun" that is designed to travel up to hypersonic speeds so that the Mark 42 can travel to hypersonic speeds. The armor also as an upgraded flight stabilizing system which enables the armor to have improved versatility during combat and precision during flight.
